The Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK(MRCP), is an internationally accepted medial membership for the physicians. MRCP Exam consists of three tests which assess the theoretical knowledge, abilities, and conduct of the aspiring clinicians. There are three parts are there for MRCP (UK) exam.
To begin your specialized internal medicine training in the UK, you must complete the entire three-parts test. The General Medical Council (GMC) has accepted all MRCP (UK) and Specialty Certificate Examinations as components of the UK postgraduate medical training program, and they adhere to the UK curriculum and requirements.
The MRCP (UK) Part 1 exam is to evaluate a candidate’s theoretical knowledge and comprehension of frequent diseases and clinical sciences relevant to the medical practice at a level acceptable for entry into specialized training. Gaining an understanding and knowledge of disease and its treatment throughout the postgraduate study is crucial as a foundation for the practice of clinical reasoning.
MRCP Part 1 consists of two examinations conducted either online or offline at various exam centres. Each paper compromises of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in a ‘best of five’ format. The students have 3 hours each per paper to complete the exam. This examination intends to test your core knowledge and comprehension along with the ability to solve clinical problems.
Physicians in training who have completed the MRCP (UK) Part 1 exam can sit for Part 2 Written exam. The exam checks a representative sample of medical knowledge. The abilities and behaviour outlined in the UK Specialty Training Curriculum for Core Medical Training and Curriculum for Internal Medicine evaluvated in this exam. It consists of two- papers of 100 questions each that you need to answer in 3 hours.
The final step toward the MRCP Membership, the Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills (PACES) exam assesses the clinical knowledge. It also checks the abilities to higher specialized training (ST3). Before taking PACES, you must have passed the Part 1 Written Test within the previous seven years.
Can I Do MRCP Soon After MBBS? Most of the students ask this question. But unfortunately, the answer is ‘No’. Since the MRCP focuses on the practical applications of medical knowledge, you cannot take the exam without completing 12 months of medical experience by the exam date.
Any doctor worldwide could attend the examination. Candidates can apply, if they have a medical degree from an institution accredited by the GMC, followed by 12 months of experience.
Candidates must submit documentation of their medical degree completion as well as proof of at least 12 months of work in the medical field to qualify for the exam.
