About the MRCP Part 2

The MRCP(UK) Part 2 is a written examination consisting of two papers designed to test the clinical knowledge of physicians who have already completed the foundational sciences. Beyond theory, it tests your knowledge in diagnosis, investigation, management, and prognosis of patients. You need to clear the MRCP Part 1 exam to sit for the Part 2 exam.

The Step-by-Step Booking Process

The entire booking process is online. To ensure you have a smooth booking process on the opening day, follow these steps provided by the My MRCP(UK) portal:

  1. Access Your Account: Log in to your account well in advance. If you have forgotten your credentials, reset them now rather than waiting for the morning the window opens. Traffic on the website will be high on the opening day, resulting in technical delays.
  2. Verify Your Personal Information: Before you apply for the exam, you have to check if all your personal details are correct and up-to-date. Ensure your name matches your identification documents exactly.
  3. Specify Training Status: You will be required to fill in details regarding your current training status. Specifically, you must declare whether you are currently training within the UK or practising internationally.
  4. Select Your Exam Centre: You must choose where you would like to take the exam. Seats at popular locations fill up in hours after the window opening. Have a backup location in mind in case your first choice is unavailable.
  5. Submit Special Arrangements: Special arrangements include any reasonable adjustments you may require, which cover physical disability, specific learning disability or any other condition that you believe may disadvantage you. If you do not require any special arrangements, there is no need to fill it out.
  6. Finalise Payment: The final step is to pay for the exam. Ensure your credit or debit card has a sufficient limit and is authorised for international transactions if you are applying from outside the UK. Your seat is only confirmed once the transaction is successfully processed.

Success Strategies for MRCP Part 2

Unlike Part 1, Part 2 will usually have a clinical scenario, may include the results of investigations and may be illustrated with images such as clinical photographs, pathology slides, inheritance trees, ECGs, X-rays, CT and MR scans, and echocardiograms.
