Format of MRCP PACES
The MRCP PACES evaluates a candidate’s ability to carry out essential clinical skills in real-life scenarios. The exam is structured into five stations, each lasting 20 minutes. At each station, you will be evaluated by two independent examiners. You can begin at any station and proceed to the next every 20 minutes until you complete the cycle. There is a 5-minute interval between each station.
Marking scheme
Candidates will be evaluated by ten examiners, with two assigned to each station. At each of the eight patient encounters (An encounter is an interaction with a patient or surrogate. Stations 2 and 5 involve one encounter, whereas stations 1, 3 and 4 have two encounters), examiners will fill out a marks sheet assessing various skills. Ratings are given as Satisfactory (2 marks), Borderline (1 mark), or Unsatisfactory (0 marks). Examiners will review the patients at all 5 stations to establish the criteria for a satisfactory grade.
